Official Launch: Fault Detection

Improve your system with Fault Detection!

If you’re working with the operation and maintenance of a district heating system, then you know how important it is to make sure that all components in the system are working as well as they could. You also know how difficult and time-consuming this task can be - especially detecting when a component suddenly starts to perform in a non-efficient way.

One type of “component” that is failing on a regular basis are the buildings in the systems. Studies have shown that as many as 75 % of the buildings in a district heating system may be performing way worse than they should. The poor performance usually originates from faults in the building heating system and/or substation. The faults include not only broken components, but also components that may malfunction or perform suboptimal in different ways. This means that a fault could also be a change of the settings in the controller of the substation, or poor balancing of the customer´s internal heating system. The faults typically cause a less efficient performance of the building, leading to less efficient systems. But these faults can be very difficult to find, especially at an early stage before they have had a big impact on the system efficiency.

To solve this problem, we are very happy to announce the commercial release of one of Utilifeed’s most requested features - Fault Detection! Fault Detection is a completely new feature that automatically detects faults in the buildings in your district heating system so that you can spend your time and effort on actually fixing the faults instead of spending your time looking for them.

More time working on what actually matters

Fault detection can be used to do fast and simple fault detection of the individual substations in your district heating system, to once and for all fix the faults that have a large impact on your system’s functionality. An important part of the new feature is our brand new fault detection algorithm, that flags deviating behaviors in the district heating substations. The analysis is based on hourly data, which means that we detect the deviating behaviors shortly after your customer data has been uploaded to our platform.

The results are presented directly in a user friendly interface, where you get an overview of the substations that have been flagged as faulty by our fault detection algorithm in our new view Fault Detection. In this view, you can sort and prioritise the detected substations in different ways so that you can start working with the biggest culprits in your system immediately.

Once you have found a substation that you want to investigate further, you’ll head to the Fault Detection tab. This view gives you the possibility to analyse each individual substation from a fault detection perspective.

Get started with Fault Detection!

No matter whether you’re already a Utilifeed customer, or if you just want to hear more about our new Fault Detection feature, you are more than welcome to Sign up for our Fault Detection Launch Event on 29 March.

Here, our product manager Sara Månsson will present the feature and its functionalities. We’ll also make sure that there is time to ask plenty of questions about how you can implement the tool in your work processes. Fault Detection is a Utilifeed premium feature which means that this event provides a unique opportunity to get insight into the feature functionalities and how it works!
