These filters bring a new dimension to your data management toolkit, offering a dynamic solution to address two pivotal challenges: allowing you to identify faulty substations and exclude outdated, disconnected units.

The new “Latest Data Upload Filter” acts as a temporal gateway, allowing you to sift through substations based on their data upload timelines. This visual aid is a powerful addition to your analytical arsenal, providing clarity and control over the temporal aspect of your data.

Use cases:

1. Identifying Faulty Substations:
  • With the new filter, you can pinpoint substations that have ceased uploading data, serving as a vital diagnostic tool to identify potential issues in your district heating network. By setting criteria based on the latest data upload, you ensure that only actively monitored substations populate your analyses.
2. Excluding Disconnected Substations:

But that's not all! We’ve also introduced a long awaited feature — Filter Inclusion/Exclusion. This dynamic functionality allows you to fine-tune your funnel by including or excluding the results of a specific filter, providing a tailored and refined dataset for your analyses.

Navigating Your Dataset with Precision:
  • The Filter Inclusion/Exclusion feature acts as a virtual switch, granting you the ability to include or exclude the results of a chosen filter, dynamically altering the composition of your dataset. See it as being able to invert your filter, swapping the data that passes through to your final data set.

Visualizing the Funnel States:

As depicted in the image, the Filter Inclusion/Exclusion feature adds a quick and direct way to invert your filter result set. Flipping the switch quickly inverts the data that passes through. Imagine trying to analyse outlier substations, with either very high or very low energy usage. Now that's super easy, in a single click.

Alongside Missing Substation Data

As many of you know, the “Allow missing values” toggle on the filter, is a pretty powerful tool. What it does, is it allows missing data to pass through the filter, even if it has no data. If you’re still unsure of how it works, lets run it down quickly:

  1. Imagine you wanted to filter out a specific Grid Area and then filter on Energy Usage. Simple right?
  2. However, not all your substations have Grid Area defined. Perhaps your data upload isn’t finished yet, or some substations just don't have a Grid Area defined?
  3. Well, you would just turn on the “Allow missing values” toggle on the Grid Area filter. That’s it! Now any substations missing Grid Area, are still passed to the next Energy filter.

The way that the new Include/Exclude feature interacts with missing substation data, is something we pondered on for quite some time. We needed to find something intuitive but also powerful to use. Thus, the missing substations are included in the result, before the filter is, in essence, inverted. Have a look at the diagram below for a clearer explanation:

This makes the Include/Exclude filter button a direct way to invert the results a filter produces. See, straight forward.

One crucial aspect often underestimated in data management is the order of the filters. The sequence in which filters are applied can significantly impact the final dataset and directly influences system performance. Here's why it matters:
